Alpaca Socks
SIZES
Alpaca socks come in three sizes based on UK adult shoe sizes:
Small : 4 – 7
Medium: 8 – 10
Large: 11 – 13
Quality alpaca fibre has a natural crimp in it which allows the sock to
stretch as it is put on and then to shrink back to provide the perfect
wrinkle free fit making the socks very comfortable and loved by walkers who very rarely experience blisters when wearing alpaca socks which are regularly worn by participants in long distance walks.
COMPOSITION
The composition of the socks depends on the proposed use by the
wearer:
Dress Socks could also be described as Everyday socks as with 55%
alpaca and 45% nylon they are a thinner sock, suitable for everyday
wear in shoes with the composition maintain the exceptional qualities of alpaca fibre.
LENGTH
With the exception of Country Socks, which are knee length with
turnover tops, all alpaca socks are mid-calf length
Country and Cushion Soled Walking Socks are 75% alpaca and 25%
nylon making them extremely hard wearing and suitable for wear for outdoor activities in wellington/walking boots or trainers. The cushion soles ensure that the wearer’s foot remains dry and at body
temperature, reducing the frequency of need for washing.
House/Bed Socks are 90% alpaca and 10% nylon so are for indoor use in bed or slippers rather than in shoes. Many or of customers have reported that the fact that they maintain ones foot at body temperature makes them ideal as bed socks or for sufferers of a variety of medical conditions.
CARE
Country, Cushion Soled Walking and House/Bed socks are best hand washed, although may be machine washed on a cool/wool wash of 30 degrees. Dress socks can be machine washed at 40 degrees.
All alpaca socks should be dried flat, away from heat and do not hang them up or dry on radiators as this will result in the fibre matting.
As alpaca socks regulate the temperature of the wear’s foot customers report that socks need washing less frequently than many other types of socks!
Peruvian Knitware
These beautiful garments are produced by the wives of the Alpaca farmers living high up (3000 meters) on the Altiplano (the melt water plateau of the High Andes. Most are produced using Baby Alpaca, which is a term used for very fine, under 20 micron ( 20/1000 of a millimetre) with some items being a blended mix of Alpaca and Acrylic. The dyes used are nearly all natural and these goods off all the qualities of Alpaca – very soft, light and strong, keeping the wearers warm in Winter and cool in Summer – It is a true luxury fibre.
